What are good ways to quit smoking cigarettes?

I want to quit smoking cigarrettes so bad but its so hard. How do I quit? What is some good advice?
Would be a great idea John, only I can’t smoke weed since I’m on probation

Switch to an electronic cigarette and possibly use that to wean off of nicotine while maintaining the oral and hand to mouth part of the addiction as you deal with the chemical addiction on your own terms.

That’s my plan and its been working for going on 5 months now. =)
Smoked for over 30 years and after a fairly short learning curve, I just preferred the electronic cig over real tobacco cigs. Finished the cigs I had in the house while learning and then just never bought any more cigarettes.

If it sounds like you might like to try it – I would recommend learning about e-cigs first so that you pick the right one for you and your habits. Check out vids on you tube and read some forums that aren’t brand sponsored so you get unbiased info and not sales pitches.

**edit – and I would NEVER recommend anyone go on Chantix unless you’ve done some research on the dangers of suicide while using this drug AND AFTER.
If you want to die, then just keep smoking and at least go happy.

    You can get a prescription for chantix. Its about $100 per month, but you probably spend that in cigarettes anyway. My dad was on this and it worked really well.

    Think about what you’ll look like in ten years. Multiply that by ten. Then think about how NASTY the stink is. Then think about what it does to your teeth, your hands, your lungs. Good for you for wanting to quit. I always looked at the negatives and tried to make them worse than they were. That worked for me.. Not to mention the rece$$ion. Do whatever you got to do and good luck!! Keep at it!

    I have been cigarette free for around 5 years now and I feel great – one of the best things you will ever do is quit. The quitting pangs do not last for ever and before you know it you’ll get into the habit of no longer needing to smoke.

    Sometimes, one way to wean a person from nicotine is to have him continue doing the act of smoking without the nicotine in cigarettes.
